Dawgs Too Much for a Weary Georgia Tech

Box Score

Apr. 16, 2006

With a nail-biter against Auburn won just three hours earlier, the Yellow Jackets took to the field at Chattahoochee High School to face off against rival University of Georgia. Tech was able to hold off the potent UGA offense for the first ten minutes of the game, but the flood gates finally opened and Georgia put in 8 goals to Tech's 1 to close the half up 8-1. With the time of possession nearly equal, Tech could not find the back of the net with poor shot selection and stellar play by UGA's goalie.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets buckled down and played a more even sided game as the offense was able to get in a rhythm. Tech scored the first two to cut the score to 3-9, but UGA responded to each of Tech's goals. The score of the second half was 8-9 in favor of the Dawgs, and with the insurmountable first half lead, UGA picked up a 17-9 win and a second place seed in the upcoming SWLL championships.

With the loss, Tech ended in a tie for 7th place in the SWLL standings with Florida State. Because the Seminoles had beaten Tech head-to-head earlier in the season, they earned the 6th and final seed to the SWLL championships. Tech ended its season with a 7-4-1, it's third winning season in a row. With everyone returning next year, Tech looks to improve even more and hopefully contend for the SWLL championship and a berth to the WDIA national championship for 2007.
