Yellow Jackets Travel to New Orleans

Jan. 28, 2008

This past weekend the Yellow Jackets traveled to New Orleans, LA to play in the annual Mardi Gras Tournament. The games were played at LaSalle Park in Metairie, and due to heavy rains the day before the fields were very wet and muddy. Though it was hard to play under these circumstances, the team bonded together to adapt to the conditions, and have some fun with them as well.

The Yellow Jackets had a very busy Saturday, playing four full games. The first game was against Boyd's, a club team out of Houston, TX. The Jackets earned an early lead, but then fell behind and were unable to rally in the second half, resulting in a loss. The Jackets then played Hero's, a post-collegiate club team out of Maryland, and were unfortunately over matched by the opponent's size, speed and skill. After the first two losses, Tech came out strong in the third game against Rice, grabbing an early lead and dominating throughout. In the final game the team continued its hot streak, beating Tulane on both ends of the field, resulting in a rewarding victory.

Overall it was a very successful weekend for the team as all players got the chance to start and play in different positions and discover their strengths and weaknesses. It was also the first opportunity for new coach June Park to evaluate all the players in game situations and formulate strategies for the season to come. And of course, the team enjoyed the local culture and even attended a Mardi Gras parade!
